Losing weight
I’ve read a lot about personal branding since entering the world of recruitment. One of the common themes is that people should really know the real you.
By now, anyone that reads my blog knows I love meat, Liverpool and KFC; but here’s a little more about the last year or so of my life – I know what you’re thinking “oh God, here he goes…”
Starting at the beginning, I was overweight, had recently been told I was being made redundant and was about to live out of a hotel for 9 months… I know, buzzing right! I was living the dream!
Living in a hotel to set up a new call centre miles from home was not ideal as it meant I was eating out every night (for free I may add, so don’t feel too sorry for me). But because I was overweight, it meant I was going to have to work hard to not put weight on during this time.
So I made a conscious decision to make the most of this time, knowing that if I ever wanted to have the family haircut and shave my head, I should start to slim down my face a bit.
To help this, I started going to the gym at the hotel every night for about half an hour – just on the X-Trainer, before the 5/6 of us went to Nandos, TGI’s, the hotel restaurant or somewhere different for dinner and a few beers.
This really didn’t help my weight loss (not that I inflated, I just didn’t deflate at the rate I wanted to and needed to make a change).
This then meant I started going to the gym for an hour, then an hour and a half; this then turned into a swim before work and then an hour and a half of cardio after work.
It became a bit of an obsession if I’m honest; so much so that I’d get in the gym the second it opened in the morning, I’d do a 45 minute workout before work, take an early lunch and go to Nandos – ordering chicken with a side of chicken, and then going back to the gym for 2+ hours in the evening.
I was leaving the others to go out for dinner and meeting them afterwards, however boring this was, the results were starting to show; but anyone that has lived out of a hotel from Sunday – Friday will know that when you get home, all you want to do is socialise with your friends and family, so I’d lose about 4/5 lbs during the week and put on 2/3 lbs at the weekend!
This just spurred me on, and I finally got to a stage where I was happy to shave my head, which has been my haircut of choice ever since.
Will obviously liked the new look and took a chance on me, letting me start 3 months after interviewing so I could go to Sydney for NYE, followed by 3 weeks in New Zealand, which put the weight loss project on hold for a few weeks.
Since then, I’ve been less intense with working out but have continued to lose weight.
I was happy where I was at the beginning to be honest, but being fit and healthy also makes me happy.
I’m just over 3 stone down now and I just wanted to share how you can eat out most nights, have beers at the weekend and lose weight doing so if you put your mind to it.
I’m off for a curry and a run tonight… not in that order.
Have an awesome weekend.
