Wake up Beauty it’s time to Beast

What is your favourite motivational quote?

Ben Stokes after his incredible test on Sunday where he lead England to victory against Australia with his unbelievable 135 not out, on interview afterwards said “Never give up. It’s not over till its over.”

This is so true. He was magnificent and truly inspirational.

Science defines motivation as your general willingness to do something. It is the set of psychological forces that compel us to take action.

I used to work for an American company and motivational quotes were every where, notepads, pens, framed pictures, on the header and footers of our emails. It was all “work hard play hard”, “you can do it!”, “when the going gets tough the tough get going” blah blah blah. I used to eat that stuff for breakfast but now I am a bit more seasoned and a bit more cynical.

Motivational quotes are handwritten all over our Crossfit walls like grafitti. But when I am on round 4 of the Reebok Nasty 9 (Nine rounds of 9 deadlifts, 9 toes to bar, 9 Power cleans, 9 air squats, 9 push press and 9 burpees over bar) and my thumb is bleeding and my hands are red raw from toes to bar, I stop to rest and take a drink and there are all the motivational quotes that my Crossfit buddies have wrote, I do not feel  motivated. I want to cry, get my stuff and go home. Instead I carry on and after 43 minutes I am done. We all fist pump and I am dying, I just want to lie on the floor. I have blisters a lumberjack would be proud of!

Motivation at the gym is super important. I go because there is a coach and other people who are going through the same as me. I would never work that hard in the gym on my own. Working out with others keeps me motivated.

That famous quote that Kate Moss got absolutely slammed for “Nothing tastes as good as skinny” So not true. Nothing tastes better than a meal you can afford to pay for and not worry that your card is going to decline.

Two best motivators at work: Reward and Recognition. And of course:

Working with a great team

Having an awesome boss

Achievable targets

A good salary

Performance related bonuses or commission

Nice work outings for hitting target

Don’t get me wrong I still love a good cheesy motivational quote. I voted to have one on our new blank wall in the office but was out voted by a TV so we can watch the footy!

Motivational speeches in movies are always the best and most memorable. My favorite of all time is from Coach Carter:
