If you’re early on in your VAT career in private practice or at HMRC, this could be the next career move you’ve been waiting for. An urgent opportunity has arisen for an VAT Assistant Manager to join a fantastic client of ours at their brand-new offices in Leeds.

Our client specialises in dealing with tax and VAT disputes associated to HMRC for a wide variety of clients. They work across disclosure, tribunal, and alternative dispute resolution, as well as helping clients with time to pay solutions. They are now looking to expand their offering and develop a VAT advisory arm of the business and require a VAT Assistant Manager to assist in the development and growth of this new department. Working as part of a small team, this is a genuine opportunity to enter the business at the beginning of an exciting growth period, with plenty of opportunity for career progression.

Ideally you will have a good base knowledge of VAT, its inner workings, how to prepare VAT returns and a knowledge of the various ratings applied to different products and services. You will be comfortable speaking to clients and be able to communicate professionally in both written and verbal scenarios. Ideally, you will have a sound understanding of how HMRC deals with VAT and how to report correctly to avoid any issues.

Our client places huge emphasis on training and developing all staff, and there is potential to gain additional qualifications to further your personal and career development. Every quarter there is a team learning session where everyone meets and shares knowledge on different areas of the business. Senior members of staff will take different questions on certain areas of the job and provide valuable insight and share expertise to help you develop as an individual and as a team.

This is not the sort of environment where you are clock watched on billable time, you are trusted to get on and manage your own diary. Ideally, you will be based within a commutable distance to their new offices in Leeds, but there is also scope for a hybrid working setup for the right candidate. They also have an office in Manchester that could be utilised.

From a salary perspective you will be looking at between £30 – 40,0000, generous holiday allowance, Perkbox access, company pension and an array of other benefits. There will be flexibility to operate under a hybrid setup depending on your experience, but this will be finalised at offer stage. In the early stages, your presence at the new offices in Leeds will be required in order to build the relationships with the wider group that will help to drive the growth of the new division.
